Team Adidas vs. Team Calypso - World T20 Cricket Finale

Morning of April fool’s day hit “Team India” and their billion plus followers hard in T20 cricket world cup; with an uncharacteristic loss. Albeit one of the best Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni forgot to attempt and hit the ball outside the boundary whilst running 2’s for KohliJ Team India was out of luck on 31st night, but also lost to some scintillating batting from one of Mumbai Indians, franchise player (WI recruit) Lendl Simmons.

Despite the win against India in the semi-finals, West Indies calypso cricketers will find ample support in the sports loving metropolis of Kolkata. In few hours from now they will lock horns with a consistent English team.

History will be defined on 3rd April 2016 in the shortest format of cricket. Either England or West Indies will become the winners for a 2nd time in the T20 world cup history. Till date 3 powerhouses from Sub-continent along with the 2 finalists of this edition have won the T20 world-cup once each.

West Indies outsmarted Srilanka in 2012 final, with Marlon Samuels playing a match winning knock.

England had managed to notch their first cricket ICC world trophy earlier in 2010 with great contributions from now exiled Kevin Peterson & co.

There would be few tussles to watch out for on the cricket field. Cricket is possibly the only outdoor game where the pitch and conditions at time dictate the outcome of a cricket match. Eden Gardens in Kolkata would also be a testament to that. With a good sporting pitch, all external demons could be laid to rest.

Even though momentum maybe with WI’s team, “yours truly” would like to pit England as marginal favorites. History would be on other side, but this England team looks more consistent on paper and in performance till date. They maybe have been outdone by WI in league encounter by Gayle in Wankhede Stadium at Mumbai, but as a team England look better.

The 3 stripes team has with them the likes of Jos Butler- the 360 degree cricketer who is no less than an ABD or Kohli. Joe Root is Mr consistent. The new found aura of Jason Roy, could be at display again pitch notwithstanding! In Ben Stokes and Chris Jordan they have 2 bowlers who could get the length right in death overs. Ali and Rashid could get some bite going if turn is on offer. Last, but the least Willey with his Full-length swing could keep Gayle-force quiet!

WI is not short of ammunition too. Gayle can single-handedly win matches as he did to England in league stage. Lendl Simmons showed his worth in semi-finals, and could come to party again. Dwayne Bravo is one of the best T20 bowlers and can be handy with bat too. In Badree and Benn they have 2 miserly spinners; who can be difficult to get away in the initial 10 overs. Sammy, Braithwaite and Russell bring the typical WI flair to the team too. As a team as Sammy said they have all match-winners; but as a team can they pull this off again is to be seen!

Eoin Morgan the England captain along with Andree Russell from WI has ample knowledge about Eden Garden. Both have had opportunities to play for the local IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders. All in all the Finale could be pulsating and close if the pitch is sporting.

At this stage I see England ahead fractionally. Odds stacked at 51 – 49% in English teams favor. Team Adidas I hope will come out in triumph!

Stay tuned action starts at 3:30 pm CET today:)
